This year's World Giving Report confirms once again that charitable giving in Germany is less pronounced compared to other countries. Despite the country's wealth, the percentage of respondents who donated money, at 46%, is significantly lower than the global average (61%) and the continental average (57%). The average percentage of income given to charity is also lower in Germany. While respondents in Germany donated an average of 0.4% of their income to charitable or religious organisations or people in need, the global average is 1.0% and the continental average is 0.6%.

At the same time, the results show that organisations with effective public relations and a personal approach to donors could positively influence donation behaviour. Year-on-year, there has been an increase in the number of people who donated because of fundraising efforts by organisations or because people they know asked them to donate. Furthermore, 35% of respondents stated that they would donate more if the organisation's management practices were more transparent.

The Maecenata Foundation is an independent, non-profit foundation whose mission is to strengthen civil society as a prerequisite for an open and democratic society. Its work is based on the conviction that civic engagement plays a central role in social justice and cohesion, intercultural dialogue, and the realization of democratic values.

The Maecenata Foundation pursues its goals through four programs: The Maecenata Institute is an independent research institution. It focuses on topics such as civic engagement and the relationship between democracy and civil society. The Tocqueville Forum translates the foundation's academic research findings into political communication. The forum organizes public and political debates on civil society, charitable work, philanthropy, and foundations.

Through Transnational Giving, the foundation facilitates cross-border donations—tax-deductible, legally secure, and straightforward. Since its inception, the Maecenata Foundation has successfully facilitated donations totaling over €200 million. The MENA Study Center focuses on civil society developments in West Asia/Middle East and North Africa (MENA) and the Islamic world.
